Seeing God: Stories of Women in the Bible

January 29 @ 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm

What is it like to see God, and what happens when you do? This three week series will explore the way our sisters in faith saw and spoke to God in the ordinary and extraordinary events of their lives. Their encounters will invite us to look for God in our own lives as we reflect on their stories.

Using art, conversation, and imagination we will follow Miriam (Exodus 2 and 15), Mary of Nazareth (Luke 1-2), and Martha and Mary of Bethany (Luke 10, John 11) on their journeys with the divine.

This series will be presented on three Wednesday evenings: January 29th, February 5th, and February 12th. We will offer a light supper in the Undercroft beginning at 6:15pm (following the 5:30pm Evening Prayer & Holy Eucharist service) with the program following (about 6:40pm) and ending at 7:30pm.

The series is presented by The Rev. Amy Merrill Willis, a clergyperson in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Director of General Education at the University of Lynchburg. She has taught courses on Women in the Bible, Death and Immortality, Jesus and Judaism, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. She holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Emory University. She is married to The Rev. Steve Willis, who serves High Bridge Presbyterian Church in Natural Bridge. They have two grown children
