Many are feeling a sense of helplessness and despair as we learn about yesterday’s mass shooting which killed 19 elementary school children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas. We are at a loss for a response to a tragedy, which happened thousands of miles from Lynchburg and yet shakes us to the core in our shared humanity.
St. Paul’s will open our doors today (Wednesday) through Friday from Noon to 5pm. Our sister Episcopal churches in Lynchburg will also open their doors over the next few days at various afternoon hours. We do this to offer a place of solace and prayer for anyone who walks through our doors.
Please, if you are in need of quiet and solace during this time, stop by St. Paul’s, or any of the Lynchburg Episcopal Churches.
Loving God, Jesus gathered your little ones in his arms and blessed them. Have pity on all who mourn for those lost to evil and senseless acts of extreme violence, innocents lost to the violence of our fallen world. As all things are possible with you, redeem this horror with the immensity of your love, and lead us to somehow love those who are responsible, filling our hearts with a spirit of forgiveness. Be with us as we struggle with the mysteries of life and death; in our pain, bring your comfort, and in our sorrow, bring your hope and your promise of new life, in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
